IN 3 YEARS, a documentary-film by Govinda Siwakoti has been officially selected at the Toronto Nepali Film Festival Canada 2011. According to the organizers, this year TNFF received fifty-nine submissions from Canada, Nepal, Serbia, Switzerland, UK and the US. Another six films were forwarded from the 2010 submissions to the jury pool. The TNFF curatorial committee has selected nine extraordinary films, besides IN 3 YEARS are - Forgive! Forget Not!, In Search of the Riyal, Pooja, The Last Race, The Rat Hunters, Sherpas The True Heroes of Mount Everest, The Struggle Within and Vhando. TNFF is taking place on 12th March 2011.
In Three Years is an innovative documentary film that centers on the correspondence between Bikash and his father. Bikash is fourteen years old and lives with his two younger siblings, mother, grandmother and relatives in the suburbs of Kathmandu. His father lives in the US and has not returned to Nepal since he left. Bikash has been recording video of himself and his family and sending it to his father for the past three years. Focusing on a suburban middle class Hindu family, the film also brings forth the rapidly changing landscapes as Bikash comes of age. In gist the key point is the effect of foreign migration and the other thing is presentation of contemporary lifestyle, culture and children up-bringing in medium class Hindu family in Kathmandu, Nepal.
